The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation on Monday said it supplied 1,200 million standard cubic feet per day of gas to domestic, industrial, commercial and power sectors in the month of September 2017.
The NNPC’s Group Managing Director, Maikanti Baru, said the feat was an improvement over some previous months.
Baru disclosed this at an event to mark the commencement of operations of the newly constructed mega station of the NNPC Retail Limited located along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
He was quoted in a statement issued in Abuja by the corporation’s spokesperson, Ndu Ughamadu, as saying, “The NNPC will continue to maintain its leadership position in the supply of another significant product, gas, to the Nigerian market through its exploration and production business unit.
“The Gas and Power Directorate of the corporation is also recording improved gas supply to domestic, industrial, commercial and power sectors, which stood at an average of 1,200mmscf/d last month.”
According to Baru, this is part of the strategies adopted by the national oil firm in ensuring energy security across the country.
He stated that the subsidiary’s mega station would also ensure that thousands of motorists plying the road would get year-round fuel supply at the station, as the NNPC would continue to ensure products availability in Nigeria.
Commenting on the new filing station, the Managing Director of the NNPC Downstream Company, Mr. Yemi Adetunji, said the facility was established in line with the economic recovery and growth initiative of government.
He said he was sure the station would meet the fuel consumption needs of motorists along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
